The Valley is a mix of long time locals and more recent arrivals all of whom have decided to call the Mitta Valley home. Many people live in the three townships of Eskdale, Mitta and Dartmouth with the balance on rural and lifestyle properties scattered along the valley. The community of the Mitta Valley is a welcoming and active one with a plethora of sporting, social and community groups actively supporting the Valley and allowing people to feel connected and a sense of belonging. More than half of our community members volunteer in some capacity. This is a real asset – despite our small size, we are well connected and passionate about our community.
Agriculture is an important industry with dairying and beef two major activities. Other employment opportunities include in tourism and accommodation-based businesses, healthcare and education. A number of residents commute to the larger centres of Tallangatta or Albury-Wodonga. With the recent upgrade of the Omeo Highway, which runs through the Valley, and improving Internet access, opportunities for home-based businesses are also increasing.
